I have a Koken barber chair. I am not really sure of its age. It has a lever on the side that raises and lowers it, tilts it back, and the barber is supposed to be able to pull the lever all the way back to lock it into whatever position it's in. Mine will not lock. Does anyone know how to fix this?

are you saying the tilt or the swivel won't lock?

It is the swivel lock that wont lock. The tilt lock works fine. Thank you.

I would check closely and make sure arm is going all the back( toward rear of chair) and not binding

When I pull the lever all the way back to lock it, it doesn't seem to have grasping pressure or a sticking like a chair that functions fine. The handle is sort of limp and free.

The arm feels and sounds like it is banging into metal at its furthest point. Visible inspection shows no binding of the arm outside the housing/bushing it inserts into. Does the entire seat come off of the pedestal easily to inspect inside the housing/bushing?

you can take the chair off the base but it is heavy. Sounds like the lock mechanism has become detached or broken so it will have to be disassembled.

How difficult is it to remove the chair from the pedestal? I really appreciate the help. Also, do you know where I amy be able to find a 2-prong headrest?

your brake is worn! what you need to do is remove the seat from the pedestal(4 bolts and a pin). once you do this lift the hydraulic pump completely out of the cylinder, you will see the brake, looks like a drum brake from a car. take it to a machine shop and have another made using the original as the model only making the new one slightly bigger.....slighty.....

I have a Koken Barber chair 1890's and I can't get it to lock in the tilt position, I don't see anything that is attached to the handle or foot part??? The chair swivels and raises with no problem.

Dottie, sounds like the tilt brake is either out of adjustment or completely worn out. Look under the seat you should see a rod going through a braket with a couple of springs with adjusting screws, release alittle tension( about a quarter of a turn ) on each screw and check again.

I have a old Koken barber chair that I am trying to lock in place to keep it from swiveling. I did it once to lift it but I can’t seem to get it to lock again. What is the process to lock the swivel ?
